Heavy-bodied aquatic snake with dark crossbands near the neck that become alternating blotches toward the tail.

Size

Usually 24-42 inches.

Diet

Primarily fish and amphibians.

Habitat

Rivers, streams, ponds, lakes, and adjacent banks.
